Meze 99 Classics
Wired, over-ear, closed-back design, self-adjustable headband, nice carrying case, affordable for audiophile headphones, replaceable all parts, good built-quality
The Meze 99’s headphones have a design that is unique and are quite unlike general over-ear headphones. This post will be talking about Meze 99 Neo, which is as well, it has a beautiful aesthetic that is different from other simple headphones like the Anker Soundcore Life Q20 or Skullcandy Crush Evo. The Meze 99 Neo is newer than Meze 99 Classics and also cheaper too. OK! now I am ready to take you to the detail of the Meze 99 Neo review to recognize the important things about these closed-back headphones under $200.
I can say that “The Meze 99 Neo is built to last”. All assembly without glue, only nuts and bolts, and almost parts can replaceable. So if there is some parts damage, you can buy separate and replace a new one.
The structure and shape have no change in the 99 Neo. The designs for both models (99 Neo and 99 Classics) are similar. There are some differences between both, that are the Meze 99 Classics’ ear cups are made of walnut, but the 99 Neo’s are coal-black textured earcups and cast zinc alloy hardware. The overall shape looks like a twin-beam headband frame but is self-adjusting. The cups are not designed to rotate but you can detachable ear pads to clean. Nevertheless, bot 99 Neo and 99 Classics create subtle yet modern cutting-edge looks.
The headphones are not foldable which means the Meze 99 Neo is not convenient for taking on the go. And this is the same as the old model (99 Classics). However; the 99 Neo provide a hard carrying case in the package the can contains headphones, cable, and all accessories in the package. The carrying case can help you more convenient for travel even though they use a lot of space for packing.
The Meze 99 Neo uses a 40mm driver that can completely cover the ear as the Meze 99 Classic. Both cups padding with medium-density memory foam but a pretty soft for the ear. These let you have no fatigue on the ear even though you are listening to music for long sessions.
The company design the headband of the Meze 99 Neo by covered with leather and also self-adjusting, this let spreads the weight out and fits all head sizes.
The bass is very accented and strong. To be honest, in my thinking, the Meze 99 Neo gives a quite boomy bass. The 99 Neo’s lows are on par with the Audio-Technica ATH-M50X’s. The bass is a lot more noticeable. Just the first time listening, I felt that these were somewhat muffled. After getting used to the sound signature of the 99 Neo, these headphones deliver strong bass and I like it.
The mids is very great and closed to the 99 Classics. In my opinion, the Meze 99 Classics give a little better detail and definition than the 99 Neo. However; both provide a lot of depth, clarity, and warm sound that really makes these headphones great for acoustic and rock genres.
These over-ear headphones under $200 deliver rich in detail and are not hard or exhausting. Not flimsy or uncomfortably sharp. The highs and mids of the 99 Neo play well together.
Overall the sound quality of the 99 Neo is good sounding, not flat. The lows, mids, and highs are balanced and play well together and seamlessly.
