Tozo NC9 2024 review: These cheap wireless earbuds are a strong choice for those seeking affordable, high-quality wireless earbuds. While it may not satisfy the most discerning audiophiles, it excels in comfort, good battery life, and usability, making it an excellent option for everyday listeners. The most important thing is that the Tozo NC9 is affordable with decent quality sound and features.
Tozo NC9 Hybrid Active Noise Cancelling Wireless Earbuds
in-ear, true wireless earbuds, OrigX Acoustic 2.0 technology, ergonomically designed to fig snugly, Bluetooth 5.3, 32 EQs option via the Tozo app, ANC modes: noise cancellation/transparency/reduce wind/leisure/normal/custom pattern, battery life: 59 hours of playtime (with charging case)
I wrote a Tozo NC9 review four years ago, but now I have the new Tozo NC9 2024 model, and it’s very different in design and features compared to the old model. The Tozo NC9 2024 is a hybrid active noise-canceling earbud that redefines your audio experience. The new sleek, compact, and user-friendly design features a real-time battery indicator. It’s built on the success of its predecessors and includes improved battery life, enhanced sound performance, and superior ANC, all wrapped in a stylish package. After testing it for a few days, I decided to write the Tozo NC9 2024 review to share my experience with readers. So, if someone is looking for affordable, high-quality wireless earbuds, this review can provide useful information to help make a decision
The design of the Tozo NC9 2024 features new aesthetics that differ significantly from its predecessor (the old Tozo NC9). The most notable change is the charging case, which now includes a digital power display at the front, allowing you to see the battery status in real-time for both the earbuds and the charging case. The old model only had four LED dot lights to indicate the remaining battery.
The Tozo NC9’s earbuds are crafted with an ergonomic shape that fits perfectly in my ears. The company provides six different ear tip sizes in the package, allowing you to choose the size that fits your ear canals perfectly. For me, the default size (L) fits seamlessly, which is secure fits in my ears, and does not easily fall out while I’m running at the park in the morning.
However, to get the best sounding and good noise isolation, you should try to wear all ear tip sizes to find the one that best fits your ears.
The material is plastic, but it’s a durable plastic, which makes the charging case quite lightweight. Its compact design makes it easy to carry. The case is stylish and protects the earbuds while offering additional battery life but it’s not a transparent case like Tozo Crystal Buds (ANC wireless earbuds) or Tozo Crystal Pods Hybrid ANC wireless earbuds. The lid features a straightforward mechanism for quick access, allowing you to open it with one hand. The earbuds weigh just a few grams, but I still feel like I have something in my ears at all times while wearing them. However, after two hours of wearing them, I experienced no discomfort or fatigue.
The default touch control scheme is standard and easy to understand, making it simple to remember how to operate. You can manage playback control, adjust volume, and activate ANC or transparency mode by tapping the side of the earbuds. However, to control all functions via touch, you need to wear both earbuds. One tap on the right earbud plays or pauses audio, while one tap on the left switches between noise-canceling and ambient sound modes. You can also change the control scheme via the Tozo app.
The Tozo NC9 2024 utilizes Bluetooth 5.3, and the connection is quite stable. I placed my mobile phone on the working table in the living room and walked around my home (210 sqm) without experiencing any signal hiccups; the audio was clear, and I could hear everything that people on the other side were saying.
Unfortunately, even though it uses Bluetooth 5.3, it does not support multi-point connectivity. The Tozo NC9 cannot connect to two devices simultaneously, requiring you to disconnect from one device before connecting to another. This is inconvenient when using the app, as you cannot use it if you are connected to a laptop, MP3 player, or other Bluetooth devices that are not a smartphone
When discussing its battery, the company claims 59 hours of playtime when fully charged with ANC off. I’m not sure about the exact number of hours, but I think it doesn’t reach 59 hours. I feel that the battery decreases pretty rapidly; after using it for around 10 hours, the LED power indicator shows only 59%. I’ve been testing ANC on and off, and adjusting the volume up and down. It’s a mixed-use of features and volume, so I’m not sure if that’s why it uses more battery.
However, the Tozo NC9 provides battery life for all day, at least 6 hours for a single charge. I think the overall battery with the charging case is around 30 to 40 hours of playtime.
Overall, the sound quality is just standard for the price tag of $60 (at the time of release). The sound is well-balanced and suitable for casual listening to music or podcasts. The bass, mids, and treble are not particularly prominent; the bass is not very robust, while the mids and vocals are clear. If you’re looking to hear every detail, the Tozo NC9 may not be the best wireless earbuds for you. I think premium audiophiles or high-end listeners may not favor these Tozo NC9 2024 wireless earbuds. However, these affordable active noise-canceling wireless earbuds deliver decent sound for music listening.
As you know, the Tozo NC9 supports an app that allows you to customize the sound profile via a graphic equalizer. It’s easy—just drag your fingers to adjust the EQ as needed. However, it is quite inconvenient to use the app to change the EQ settings because you have to pause the music and switch to the Tozo app to make adjustments (connecting to a mobile phone). As a result, the EQ changes do not happen in real time, making it difficult to perceive the differences in sound for each EQ mode.
The same applies to the ANC mode; when you want to change the ANC settings, you also have to pause the music and switch to the app. After that, you can switch back to listening to music. This is one of the drawbacks of the headphones not supporting multi-point connectivity. If you’re connected to a laptop or MP3 player, you cannot use the app, as the app only connects via smartphone. This means you can’t customize the sound profile or access the ANC feature at all.
If you prefer to feature multi-point connection wireless earbuds, the NC9 is not your option. I recommend trying the Tozo Gloden X1, which has better sound quality and supports LDAC and apt-X codecs, including multi-point connection too.
While not as expansive as higher-end models, the soundstage of the NC9s can still create a sense of space in the audio. Instruments feel separated rather than cluttered, allowing for an enjoyable listening experience.
The Tozo NC9’s ANC features can noticeably reduce background noise. However, I experience a slight ringing in my ears when I turn on the ANC, especially at higher levels. This is common with budget active noise-canceling headphones or earbuds. However, when I activate ANC the surround noise is noticeably reduced even though not all.
Unbelievably, the Tozo NC9 cheap wireless earbuds come with a low latency mode designed to enhance the audio experience for gaming or watching videos. This feature reduces the delay time between the audio and video, helping you get a better experience for gaming and watching movies or YouTube.
Once activated, low latency mode minimizes the lag that can occur with Bluetooth audio. I tried watching music videos on YouTube while turning on low latency mode, and it really enhanced the experience. The mouth movements matched the sound that came out more closely, making the experience feel more immersive.
Pros
Cons
In the final verdict of the Tozo NC9 2024 review, it’s clear that these wireless earbuds are decent in sound quality and secure fit, making them a strong contender in the market. Compared to the Tozo T6, the NC9 offers improved noise cancellation and a more refined design, appealing to those seeking a good listening experience. Overall, the Tozo NC9 2024 stands out as an affordable wireless earbud for both casual listeners and those who want to work out with their favorite music.
