Sennheiser Momentum 4 Review – Adaptive ANC Wireless Headphones

Sennheiser Momentum 4 Review – Short words

Sennheiser Momentum 4 review: Supreme comfortable for a long listening session without any fatigue around the ears. The Sennheiser Momentum 4 can fold flat in a compact to keep in the bag and save space. These wireless ANC headphones provide a maximum playtime of up to 60 hours, that very impressive. They provide good and decent sound quality, as well as active noise cancellation, which is quite good but not perfect. However; they support aptX, aptX-HD, and adaptive aptX codecs, which are hi-res audio codecs. They are also built-in EQ that can customize sound mode, adaptive ANC, and adjustable transparency.

Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless Headphones

wireless, Bluetooth 5.2, over-ear, fold-flat earcups, adjustable headband, thick padding earcups for comfortable wearing, touch gesture control, adaptive ANC/transparency mode, strong battery: up to 60 hours

Sennheiser is a mainstay in the headphones market fields for a long time, no matter wireless over-ear, wired over-ear, or wireless earbuds. Most Sennheiser items are very good quality and have unique-stylish designs. Sennheiser Momentum 2 wireless and 3 wireless is a groundbreaking and eye-catching design with have core metal slider outside of the earcups and it looks outstanding. But the new model of the series Momentum, the Sennheiser Momentum 4 True Wireless is an all-new redesign. These Sennheiser over-ear headphones are adaptive noise cancellations with supreme comfort for wearing for a hours. There are many good things about these headphones. What is it? Let’s see the detail in the Sennheiser Momentum 4 review, right now.

Sennheiser Momenumtum 4 Review – The Design

An all-new redesign that looks completely distinct from the previous model, Momentum 3 wireless, uses a core of the headband is a metal frame that is adjustable and shows them on the outside of the earcups. I’m not sure the Sennheiser Momentum 4 True wireless use the metallic core for the headband, even though they use I think they might hidden metallic core in the headband that is unseeable. However; they are still more comfortable with a thick padded headband and deep, yet soft. Beyond this, cushioned earpads and covered with faux leather to make more ensure exceptional and long-lasting wearing sessions and comfort. The padding is thick enough give to them to accommodate glasses and feel comfy.

They are easily portable with fold-flat earcups designed for less capacity in the bag. Also, the Sennheiser gives a nice and solid case in the package too.

I use them for hours while working ( normally I listen to music while working), not feel hurt and fatigued around the ears. They are extremely comfortable for long listening sessions, really.

How to use and control the Sennheiser Momentum 4?

For the first time of using the Sennheiser Momentum 4 wireless headphones after connecting the headphones to your smartphone via Bluetooth. You are necessary to install a Sennheiser Smart Control app to get and install the latest firmware.

Beyond Bluetooth connection, the Sennheiser also available a 3.5mm audio jack or a USB cable for listening to music from your devices like a PC or laptop. For Bluetooth connectivity, you will have the following codec options: AAC, SBC, aptX, aptX HD, or Adaptive aptX.

The Sony WH-1000XM5 or WH-1000XM4 headphones use touch gestures to control playback and call management. The Sennheiser Momentum 4 true wireless headphones are as well. The control is easy to operate and remember.

How to control the headphones?

Touch the surface on the right earcup

  • Volume up/down – Swipe up and down respectively
  • Track forward/back – Swipe forward and back respectively
  • Cycle between ANC and transparency mode – Twice tap
  • Play/pause – one tap

These Sennheiser’s comfortable headphones also have a button on the right side of the headphones. This button is designed for turning on/off the headphones. Beyond this, this button is also used for a few other features, for example, press and hold this button (while the headphones are off) until the lights flash – access to pairing mode.

Touch control for call management ( on the surface of the right cups)

  • Answer/end a call – Swipe forward and back respectively
  • Answer/end a call – one tap
  • Reject a call – tap and hold the center for 2 seconds

For a while, you will be used to touch control and gesture control. Not difficult.

Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless Headphones – Bluetooth 5.2

The Momentum 4 is compatible with Bluetooth 5.2 and lower, they are supporting some codecs like AAC, SBC, AptX, and Adaptive AptX. This is not outstanding in this price range, not exceeding expectations. In terms of this, the Sony WH-1000XM5 supports the LDAC code, which offers a higher max bitrate and better.

Extremely Powerful Battery

Unbelievably there are wireless over-ear headphones provide a battery life of more than 50 hours and the Sennheiser Momentum 4 wireless over-ear headphones that offer up to 60 hours of playtime. This impressive playtime is double of many competitors, while Bose 700 and Bose QC45 offer 24 hours and 35 hours respectively. Even though the awful rivals like Sony WH-1000XM4 and WH-1000XM5 still offer just 30 hours. So if you looking for prominent headphones with a long playtime, the Sennheiser Momentum 4 True Wireless is a great option.

Another great feature is automatic power sleep once they have been inactive for 15 mins. Easy to wake them up with one touching them. Furthermore, automatic pause when taking the headphones out of the ear, and resumes to the current song when you wear them again.

Sennheiser Momentum 4 Review – Adaptive Noise Cancellation

Albeit the Momentum 4 of Sennheiser is just released ( released on the first date on Amazon in Aug 2022), the ability of ANC still is not the best. Personally, Sony WH-1000XM5 and Bose QuietComfort 45 do outperform in this field.

However; the Sennheiser Momentum 4 wireless has adaptive ANC and can reduce low-frequency noise, some but not all. You still hear the rumble of a bus or plane engine, even though it’s thinner. They do outperform for blocking sounds like ambient chatter or high-frequency sound. They can decrease the loudness of high-pitched noise by 75 to 95% approximately. But for the lower-frequency noise, they can reduce these noises by only around 60 to 70%. This number is just an estimate, but I would like to say the Sennheiser Momentum 4 is not the best noise-canceling headphones. It’s can block outside noise, but not all.

How well of the sound quality?

Internally, with the 42mm dynamic drivers deliver 6Hz – 22kHz of frequency response that produces amazing sound quality. The Sennheiser M4 delivers good bass but not the best bass. These wireless ANC headphones are not as powerful as Sony WH-1000XM5 in bass frequency. They do not have thumpy sounds, but soft and deep bass enough to give the immersive experience for enjoying your music. The mids and high are balanced, well crisp, and clear.

All in all, the sound quality is a personal preference, I think the Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless produce great sound in their signature. But it might not suit some of those who prefer Bose, Sony, or Beyerdynamic sound signature. The sound quality needs are sensitive to listening and making a decision, I’m not a high-end audiophile, but I like these cans and it fairs to their price especially supreme comfort, and natural sound performance.

However; the most amazing of these headphones, give playtime of up to 60 hours that better than others in this price range.
