The new wireless earbuds from LG, which famous brand of South Korean that you are reading, is the LG TONE Free FP9. These are truly wireless earbuds that come with IPX4 water resistance. How good of the sound quality? What are its good features and some drawback that I notice? Let’s find out in this LG TONE Free FP9 review right now.

LG TONE Free FP9 Review – The Design

The general design is similar to its predecessor. They are available in black, white, and haze gold. These are wireless earbuds with a short stem-based style. Both the earbuds and charging case are matte finish. The ear gels are medical-grade hypoallergenic silicone. The new design is contoured which lets good fit and grip. There are three different sizes of ear gels: small, medium, and large.

The case is a compact curve flat circle design, which fits in the hand perfectly. Lightweight and easily portable in your pocket or handbag. Both the case and the earbuds are a nice and beautiful shape and look elegant in my feeling.

There are two LED light indicators on the front of the case. The first one is the rectangular LED light for indicating the battery status level. Another LED is a circle for indicating the UNnano status. On the rear of the case, there is a USB-C slot for charging.

The earbuds look nice and elegant, there is a combination of matte and polished finished seamlessly. The outer side of the stem is polished finished, and the rest is the matte finished design. The ear gels are medical-grade and non-toxic, hypoallergenic silicone. The LG TONE Free FP9 wireless earbuds are designed to perfectly fit in the ears and offer the most comfortable feeling. One thing that is quite serious, choosing the right size of ear tips is very important for a great listening experience.

Is the LG TONE Free FP9 ideal for working out?

They are perfectly secure and fit, moreover, they also have great technology like UNnano, which kills most bacteria and cleans your earbuds for ear health. For working out or running wireless earbuds, one vital factor is water-proof and sweat-proof. The LG TONE Free FP9 comes with IPX4 water-resistant rating. So, they can resist water splashes and also sweat as well. But these wireless earbuds can’t immerse in the water, so you can’t wear them while taking a bath or swimming. Or even in heavy rain, you should not wear them in the rain.

UVnano technology

The amazing features and rare in other wireless earbuds, the UVnano technology can kill 99.9% of bacteria on the speaker mesh of the earbuds. This feature had integrated into the charging cradle. When you open the lid of the charging cradle, you will see the blue light in the groove to place the earbud every time. Blue light, besides being beautiful and luxurious, also makes feeling the case still has UVnano technology to get rid of bacteria from your earbud.

TONE Free FP9 Review – The Call Quality

Talking about call quality is so good. The short stem design doesn’t reduce the efficiency of audio transmission at all, but it performed very well. With built-in 3 mics for each earbud, there are 2 mics on the outer surface of the earbuds and 1 mic on each internal earbud. That makes the call quality clear in both quiet and noisy places.

LG TONE Free FP9 True Wireless Earbuds – The Sound Quality

Most importantly for most people who looking for a new pair of wireless earbuds or over-ear headphones, the sound quality. The LG TONE Free FP9 comes with a great built-in equalizer and audio signature by Meridian. In personal feeling, The TONE Free FP9 produces a sound that is supremely clear. The bass is deep and well-defined, giving the feeling there is plenty of subwoofer bass. The mids are natural and also the vocal as well. The highs are quite crisp and a bit too high but not harsh. They also provide a great sound stage, quite wide but not too wide, good enough to clearly distinguish the sound of each instrument.

Unluckily, they are not supporting some quality codecs like aptX and LDAC. Else the TONE Free FP9’s sound quality must be better.

The sound quality in my own personal feeling, in the case of the TONE Free FP’s default sound, is not great for you, the LG also offers an excellent LG companion app that you can free download. This app lets you customize the sound EQ and provide five different preset equalizer settings (immersive, natural, bass boost, treble boost, and 3D sound stage).

We are a little talk about the 3D sound stage. This lets us enable spatial up-mixing to expand the sound stage and give fully immerse you in a sensory audio experience. This preset EQ is ideal for watching movies, playing games, or even listening to music. Though good, it is not equal to Dolby Atmos in terms of surround sound experience (in private thinking).

here are game mode (reduce lag) and whisper mode. In the app, you also can adjust the ANC and ambient sound level too. There are many great features that you can control via the companion app such as find my buds, touch control assignment, notifications, and much more. This is one the best app for any wireless earbuds or over-ear headphones.

LG TONE Free FP9 Wireless Earbuds – Active Noise Cancelling

When it comes to active noise cancellation, they work quite well. Albeit it can’t completely cancel noise, most noise decreases clearly. Sure, the FP9’s active noise cancellation is not the best ANC wireless earbuds, but I am still delighted that the ANC level is also adjustable according to the situation. The Ambient mode can work well, I can hear outside noise for awareness.

Battery Life

The battery of the LG TONE Free FP9 is like general wireless earbuds, there is no outstanding. They provide around 6 hours (ANC on) and 8 hours (ANC off). The charging case provides additional 14 – 16 hours depending on the volume level and ANC (on or off). The charging type is only USB-C, these wireless earbuds do not support wireless charging.

One thing that you should know about the battery life of many electronic gadgets. There are a few factors that affect the battery. For headphones or earbuds, the vital factors are volume levels and enabling any features.
