Beoplay EX Review – The Design

Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EX review

Bang & Olufsen choose the stem style design for the Beoplay EXmodel. The touch panel is made from a tempered glass placed in the aluminum ring on the back of the earbuds. There is the B&O logo in the center of the touch panel. The touch panel is glass, which looks luxurious design but it is easy to fingerprint. And it’s easy to wipe off as well.

The Beoplay EX provides four pairs of ear tips in different sizes: XS, S, M, L, and along with a set of ‘Comply’ memory foam tips that help earbuds more secure and stay firmly in place in your ears. So you can easily pick the one up to fit so snug and comfortable for your ears. The ear tips of the Beoplay EX are designed to sit tight in the ears while you are working out, running, or doing any outdoor activities. Except for swimming, no guarantee if you wear them for swimming, that they could be damaged. These wireless earbuds come with IP57 which means can resist water and dust, but not for swimming. That means the Beoplay EX ANC earbuds can against sweat and rain as the Raycon Fitness wireless earbuds.

I found that the Bang & Olufsen Beoplay Ex wireless earbuds are very comfortable even though wear the earbuds for hours. They are so lightweight, just 6 grams on each earbud

The charging case looks premium and weighs (53g) which is not too light and not too weight. It is compact in size and handy to contain in a pocket. But the matte finish that easy to make fingerprints when you touch it.

Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EX Review – Controlling the touch panel

Easy and intuitive control of the earbuds.

  • To play/pause the music – one tap on the right
  • To skip to the next track – double-tap on the right
  • To back to the previous track – double-tap on the left
  • Switch to the ANC mode – one tap on the left

You can also manage the volume by tapping and holding. Unfortunately, there is no voice assistant in the Beoplay EX. However; you can manage your phone calls with the touch control on the earbuds. Another thing that the Beoplay Ex missing is the companion app doesn’t allow you to reassign the control.

Battery Life – Not strong but decent for all-day

Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EX

If you focus on playtime, the Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EX might not be ideal for you. The playtime is just for 6 hours once charging on earbuds when turning on ANC and 8 hours when turning off ANC. The overall playtime including the charging case is 20 hours. There are many wireless earbuds that offer much more playtime than the Beoplay EX, for example, Anker Life P3i (9 hours and 36 hours with case) or Anker Liberty 4 (9 hours and 28 hours with case). Both are much cheaper than Beoplay EX.

Charging Time

I’ll talk about the time to charge briefly. The earbud takes about ninety minutes to recharge until full. While the case takes about not over 2 hours to recharge. The Beoplay EX charging case is compatible with wireless charging as well.

Active Noise Cancellation & Transparency features

Beoplay EX review

These wireless earbuds from Beoplay also come with adaptive noise cancellation and transparency features. They let you limit and raise the environment sound as you need.

The Beoplay EX can do this decent job in terms of noise cancellation. It can suppress some noises like the chatter of people around you or the hum of the air conditioner. But during the flight, I can still hear the sound of the engine airplane, even if it decreases. The right-fit silicone tips and “Comply” ear tips help the noise cancellation work better.

If you are looking for the best pair of noise-canceling wireless earbuds, the Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EX is not the item you should buy. It’s just decent fine ANC but not the best. It can block and reduce noise but not all. A pair of over-ear with ANC feature would be more effective. But the Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EX can do a decent job and can reduce distraction sound sufficiently.

When it comes to the transparency features, which let you hear the sound around the world of you. You can hear announcements or car horn sounds or traffic significantly clearer while you are walking on the pavement. You can change the adaptive ANC and transparency mode via the B&O app. In the app, you can monitor and adjust the ambient sound as you need. The Beoplay EX manages decent this job the majority of the time, but I feel it is quite slow to respond to loud noise sometime. I don’t know if I’m just thinking about it or not.

More features in the app

Apart from you can manage adaptive ANC levels and switch to transparency mode, the app allows you to monitor battery life, control playback, and toggle between five listening EQ settings: Optimal (default), Sport, Commute, Clear, and Podcast.

Easy to connect with Bluetooth 5.2

The lasted Bluetooth version (5.2) let you easily connect to all OS even iOS, Andriod, and Microsoft. You can connect to iOS with Made for iPhone (MFi) and also support the Apple watch interface. For Andriod, you can connect with Google Fast Pair, and connect to Microsoft with the Microsoft Swift Pair. They support SBC, AAC, and aptX Adaptive codecs. The wireless connectivity range is very good, I could walk more than 100 feet without obstruction but still not lost the signal. More impressively, even if there is a wall, door, or corner barrier between the signal source and the earbuds but the signal is still alive. And I can still hear a clear sound from the earbuds.

Oh, almost forgot. Headphones can use for either one bud.

Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EX Review – The Sound Quality

Where to buy Beoplay EX

I’m quite impressive the sound Beoplay EX’s sound quality. Clear and balanced. With driven by a 9.2mm driver diameter in each earbud provide an exceptional listening experience with mids balanced and outstanding highs. There are full details of vocals in all frequency ranges. The balancing between the lows and highs sound is inconceivably natural. In the default “Optimal EQ” I found that the bass leaned toward the warmer side, sober, and soft-deep but you can adjust this as you need via the B&O app.

The call quality is crisp and clear as well. The Beoplay EX wireless earbuds have built-in six microphones with Beamforming technology that delivers the voice calls very clearly. I can hear every word from my callee and they are too.

Beoplay EX Review – Final Verdict

After reading the Beoplay EX review, I hope that you get useful information about them. Before ending this review, I would like to say that the Beoplay EX wireless earbuds are very good true wireless earbuds. Nice design and is durable with IP57. Good material and durability. Comfy and secure fit for wearing for hours. The sound quality is outstanding in the B&O style. But there is something that should be correct such as battery life I think should be more than 6 hours for one charge, ANC and transparency features are just mediocre, etc. As I said above, if you are looking for the best ANC earbuds, the Beoplay Ex is not the best choice. But if you are looking for a durable and outstanding design, the Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EX wireless earbuds are right for you.
