Technics EAH-A800 Review – Audiophile-Grade ANC Headphones

Technics EAH-A800 Review – Short words

Technics EAH-A800 Review: They are wireless noise-canceling headphones with fine ANC adjustment and able to transparency settings. These wireless over-ear headphones have a very impressive battery, they provide up to 50 hours for a single charge. The sound quality is quite good. The call quality is clear with 8 distinct microphones and advanced wind noise reduction. That’s very impressive. The technics A800 designed the headband and earcups to be supremely comfortable even wearing for hours with less fatigue. Multi-point connection is another good feature. It can connect to 2+ Bluetooth devices at the same time. Foldable and rotatable earcups too.

over-ear, wireless, adaptive noise-canceling, foldable & fold-flat earcups, Bluetooth 5.2, muli-point connectivity (connects to 2+ Bluetooth devices), comfortable fit, playtime: up to 50 hours, fast charging: 15 minutes get 10 hours, built-in 8 MEMs mics: impressive call quality

Technics is a premium brand in sound equipment fields but is not quite known. Most come in quite expensive. No matter true wireless earbuds EAH-AZ40 – < $150, in-ear monitor EAH-TZ700 – < $1200, or Dj stereo headphones EAH-DJ1200 – < $200. Today we will be talking about the EAH-A800 wireless over-ear headphones from Technics, which are a bit expensive but not too expensive. The EAH-A800 is at the same price level as Bose QC45, Sennheiser Momentum 4, and Sony WH-1000XM5. In terms of build quality and sound quality is not defeating all of them, but Technics is not as famous as Bose and Sony, therefore it is not very popular. This time let’s go to the detail of the Technics EAH-A800 review right now.

Technics EAH-A800 Review – The Design

Technics EAH-A800 review

Very nice design and everything looks seamlessly beautiful. They are available in black and silver finishes. The earcups are designed to rotatable 90-degree and are collapsible to take up the smallest space in your bag. The company provides a solid zipper bag, which looks beautiful and chic too, and is convenient for carrying. The earcup padding with thick soft cushion and the chamber of the earcup is big enough to cover whole ears. The headband is covered with adequate cushions that do not make feel hard or pressure on your head. They give clamp force that is tight and secure and also headband can extend to fit any head size.

The Technics EAH-A800 wireless noise-canceling headphones combine the physical button and touch control together. That means there are both physical button control and touch panel control. The physical buttons are placed on the side of the right earcups. There is a volume control button (up (+) and down (-)). The button between the volume buttons is the playback control button. Just one tap to play and pause the music, double-tap skip to the next song, and triple-tap back to the previous song.

The touch panel is the whole outward of the earcups and looks premium with a semi-glossy, semi-matte finish and the logo “Technics” is printed on the center, which good looks and is attractive. The touch sensor is sensitive enough to receive your command. Double-tap on the touch panel to activate ANC or double-tap again to switch to ambient sound mode.

Technics EAH-A800 Wireless Bluetooth Headphones – Active Noise Cancellation

Technics EAH-A800 Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones

The Technics EAH-A800 select combines dual hybrid feedforward and feedback noise-canceling with analog and digital processing. The EAH-A800 wireless ANC headphones can adapt the level of noise-canceling and also the amount of ambient sound if you ask for it. The company is trying to develop noise-canceling headphones to fight its fearsome competitors, which basically means Bose, Sony, Sennheiser, or even Jabra. Even though can’t defeat them right now.

My personal really feeling, the ANC features of the Technics EAH-A800 are good but not great. The Beoplay H95, Bose 700, and Sony WH-1000XM5 are superior in terms of this feature. They can block outside noise quite well but not all. You still hear a bit of some noise creep in the ears if you listen to music at a volume lower than 50%.

In practice, the effectiveness of the ANC system of the Technics EAH-A800 headphones, it’s at a stage called good, but not great. In terms of the sound quality, while turning on ANC, the Technics EAH-A800 does quite well even with a little drop in the quality of the sound. That is all I think about Technics EAH-A800’s ANC.

Technics EAH-A800 Review – Battery Life

Technics EAH-A800 - Where to buy

Very good, the Technics EAH-A800 offers fantastic battery life and is way ahead of other headphones. These wireless headphones give playtime of up to 50 hours even though turn on the ANC system. This number is more than both Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2 (30 hours), Beoplay HX (30 hours), and Bose QC45 (20 hours). But it is still less than the Sennheiser Momentum 4, which offers 60 hours.

Fast-charing still exists on the Technics EAH-A800 and is great. They offer additional 10 hours of playtime from 15 minutes top-up, while a full charge from an empty battery takes 3 hours.

Technics EAH-A800 Review – Features

Technics wireless noise cancelling headphones - EAH-A800 Review

Built-in Alexa

The Technics EAH-A800 comes with Alexa built-in

The Technics Connect app

This is a great app that provides convenience and also many features that are customizable. You can check the remaining battery life, current streaming codec, and noise-canceling level. Furthermore, you choose the preset EQ via the app: Bass+, Vocal, Treble+, Dynamic, and off. You can also create your preferred sound profile. There are many more you can adjust via this app: adjust the onboard buffer t minimize latency which is good for watching movies, fine-grained adjustable of active noise cancellation (ANC), and also transparency setting that can emphasize voice while turning on the ambient sound mode. These are just samples and still have a lot of controls, which are more than those of other rivals.

Connect to more than two Bluetooth devices at the same time

Bluetooth 5.2

The EAH-A800 headphones support SBC, AAC, and LDAC codecs. This is good news for Andriod users to get the best experience.

3D Earpads and High-Density Foam

The earpads are designed to conform to the shape around the entire ears with 3-dimension technology. Along with super-soft foam padding let pressure-relieving earpads evenly distribute pressure for a stable fit.

8 built-in high-performance MEMS microphones

Technics A800 Review – The Sound Quality

The Technics A800’s default sound profile is bass-forward and seems a bit bass heavy. The bass is quite punchy, while the mids and highs sound is very nice. That can feel is they are good in both mid-bass and low-bass and it is so noticeable. The bass is a bit overwhelmed but not sloppy and not muddy. The mids are clear. There are full-bodied vocals and can hear vocals with clarity in every word. The highs are presented with excellent detail and sharpness as well.

I think Technics is successful to improve the sound quality from their old model. With the 40mm dynamic drivers improved clarity and strong bass, the sound is more spacious than the previous model.

For this Technics A800 review, All in all, the sound quality is quite good as well. If you need top-tier ANC wireless headphones, I am sorry to say that the Technics EAH-A800 is not meet your choice. You should look over for Bose or Sony which is leading in a class of noise-cancellation headphones. But if you focus on the good sound and love the bass sound, these over-ear headphones for about $350 are probably to be great your option.

Technics EAH-A800 Review – Final Verdict

The Technics EAH-A800 wireless headphones are quite an impressive pair of ANC headphones. If you are looking for over-ear headphones with strong battery life, the EAH-A800 might be your answer. However; the sound quality is mediocre and ANC is a moderate trend to good. Multi-point connection is good and not any issues while swapping to another Bluetooth device. One thing that I should comment, their price is quite high when compared to the overall quality. Thanks to read the Technics EAH-A800 review till the end, thank you.
