Sony WF-SP800N Review – Cheap Truely Wireless Sport Earbuds

Sony WF-SP800N Review – Short words

Sony WF-SP800N review: Truly wireless earbuds are ideal for those who love the deep and extra bass sound. The battery life is just mediocre, only 9 hours and up to 18 hours including the case while turning on ANC. And the maximum is around 26 hours while turning off ANC. The touch sensor is reliable and easy to operate. The Sony WF-SP800N can wear for sport because of the secure and comfortable fit as well as the water-resistant level is IP55.

Sony WF-SP800N Review – The Design

Case Charging

Sony WF-SP800N wirelss in-ear noise-cancelling headphones

At first seen, luxuriously rounded designed case with a very stylish black color. The case housing is most of the plastic giving a smooth touch and no shine, but it’s matte. It does not reflect light and does not have fingerprints. On the case charging, there is a small LED to show the status of charging.

Inside the case, you will find both of the exquisite in-ear headphones. The Sony WF-SP800N comes with a magnet that holds the headphones in the case. When you put the headphone back into the charging case, there will be a sound like magnetic sound which gives a feeling of strength and firmness. The headphones are slightly tilted up position, which easy to get out of the box. Underneath the box is a USB-C port for a charge.

The In-Ear Body

Sony WF-SP800N Review

The WF-SP800N is an in-ear headphone design and comes with an ear-fin allows locking in the ear hole. Tight, secure, not falling off easily, and also comfortable. So, these in-ear headphones under 200 bucks from Sony are ideal for general sports even running, cycling, or gym. You can be sure it won’t come off.

The headphones are quite big, once inserted into the ear you will see the headphones protruding some. The outside of the headphones for touch control the song (play and pause). But unfortunately, it can’t control the volume by dragging the finger up and down.

Next, inside the headphones, you will see a black bar. This is the proximity sensor or wearing detection sensor. It will stop the music when taking off the in-ear headphone and resume when putting it back into the ear hole again. This allows convenience, you don’t press the button to play again.

WF-SP800N Review – Active Noise Cancelling

The strong point of the WF-SP800N is its noise-canceling features. And these true wireless sport in-ear headphones from Sony are not disappointing, it works very well and close to top series like WH-1000XM4. The in-ear design is can block outside noise, and working with ANC allows more block of outside noise.

The Ambient Sound

WF-SP800N review

Ambient Sound is another cool feature that comes with the WF-SP800N. With ambient sound mode turned on, you will hear sound from the outside to safety while walking on the road. Or you are in the subway you still hear an announcement. But if you listen to loud music, the ambient sound system will work not perfectly. So, if you want to turn on ambient sound mode, you should not play the music at more than 50% of the volume.

The Sony WF-SP800 has 20 levels of ambient sound. It also has a “Focus on Voice” feature that will ANC to focus on talking and block other noises. This is great for talking to other people while listening to music.

Quick Attention

Another feature that many people like in the flagship series like WH-1000XM4, is quick attention. It is also available on this model (WF-SP800N). You just tap and hold on to the left earpiece to turn off ANC and turn on the surrounding sound for a while talking. You will hear the sound when you interact with others without taking out your headphones. The quick attention will have the same volume as an ambient mode at level 20. So, if you turn on an ambient sound mode like you turn on quick attention too.

Wearing Detection

Wearing detection is automatic pause the music when you take out the earbuds and resume playing when you put it back in your ears. Thanks to proximity sensor technology that offers more convenience.

Waterproof

These great wireless in-ear headphones from Sony are designed for sports lovers. So, the Sony WF-SP800N comes with an IP55 waterproof standard rating. That means you can wear it while running in the rain or snowboarding.

Sony WF-SP800N Review – Sound Quality

Where to buy Sony WF-SP800N

The 360 Reality Audio features come with the Sony WF-SP800N which works with nugs.net, Tidal, and Deezer. So if you use these services, you can try out 360 Reality Audio for yourself. This feature is pretty great and powerful. It also customizes the sound based on the contours of the ears.

These wireless in-ear noise-canceling headphones under 200 produce a strong powerful bass. I am very surprised by the driver size is only 6mm, but gives very strong bass. Ideals for bass lovers. But for me I think it’s a bit too heavy, having to reduce the bass in the EQ down to 3 levels so works for me.

The mids are crisp, and sweet, as well as drive excellent detail. Both vocals and music, it is clear and detailed. The mids and bass are clearly and separated, providing a very wide dynamic that is ideal for pop songs to hip-hop.

The highs are probably the weak point of WF-SP800N. Because the bass is very strong and highly powerful, the dominance of the treble has some diminished details. However; if you listen to music with little bass, you can hear high-pitched sounds that are well-detailed, not frustrating, and have a lot of dimensions.

Sony WF-SP800N with Competitor Options

The main competitor to the WF-SP800N is Jabra’s Elite Active 65t. The price is close to WF-SP800N. These wireless earbuds come with an IP55 rating, 7.5 hours of playtime, a fast charging feature, and a customizable sound profile. But in terms of noise isolation, the WF-SP800N does a better job.

But if you focus on budget, the Anker SoundCore Liberty 2 is a great choice. The price is cheaper almost $80 – $100. The Liberty 2 offers a secure fit, offers battery life of up to 8 hours, EQ can adjust, and comes with IPX5 water-resistant rating. The sound quality is great for the price tag. Nevertheless, you will not get the same level of noise isolation as WF-SP800N, but if you are focusing on value, the SoundCore Liberty 2 is to be a good option.
