Edifier R1850DB Review – Design

Edifier R1850DB Review

The stereo speakers look extremely similar to the previous model R1800BT by a similar brand. The build quality is super fine and the overall look is classy and dark. Edifier has not utilized any accent shades but opted for a mixture of several colors of matte blacks instead.

Unlike the previous model, the Edifier R1850DB features an amazing textured surface that does not attract finger touches. The fingerprint-prone shiny surface was something we did not really like, on the Edifier R1800BT, so it is best to see that company made enhancements in the next development.

The size is pretty much what you would expect from a pair of four-inch bookshelf speakers. They did not take up a lot of space, but they are not rightly portable, either. The size is small enough to fin closer bedroom studio setups.

The housing is set off a ten-degree angle, which is supposed to assist send, the output directly to the listener’s ears. A unique vertical angle might be an advantage or a drawback, all depending on the height of the area the Edifier R1850DB speakers will be placed on. It was an ideal fit for my test setup which consisted of a laptop and a sound card placed on a relatively low PC desk.

The volume knob is situated at the backside of the active speaker, which is why the included remote unit is such a big lifesaver, apart from adjusting the volume level; it also controls the active input. But unfortunately, the 2 tone knobs cannot control remotely.

One wired thing about it is that it functions 2 volumes up and 2 volumes down keys. The key pairs do rightly a similar thing and we are not sure why the company decided to add multiple buttons for a similar job. Other than that it does its job superbly.

Overall the Edifier R1850DB design looks great and is equally capable of fitting a project studio, A TV shelf, or a Fi Setup. For music produces or laptop musicians with small project studios, these Edifier R1850DB speakers are the ideal choices.

The Sound of Best Bookshelf Speaker Under 200

Best Bookshelf Speakers Under 200

Now for the most vital, how about speakers sound? Listening to a mix of tracks ranging from Kanye West to Beatles revealed small boosted mid-bass and highs, which is not essentially a bad thing. Rather, it is a common sight of mass-market speakers who love to wow 1st-time listeners with super punchy bass and wonderful highs.

That being said, playing the track around with the treble dials and bass at the back makes it possible for the Edifier R1850DB to sound balanced. The 60Hz-20 kHz freq response means the lows do not go extremely deep and the highs are rolled off.

All of these make for simply listening but it lacks the accuracy and details that come with top-end setups. The company does however add a subwoofer out port which means there’s sufficient potential to increase the below end.

Overall, the Edifier R1850DB sounds considerably better than cheaper PC speakers and performs very well during close-field listening. This makes them fine speakers for PC, whereas well-known bookshelve speakers are a bit too large and often end up wasting their maximum potential given the fact you would sit right in front of them.

R1850DB Review – Connectivity

R1850DB Bluetooth Bookshelf Speaker

The input slots on the backside make Edifier R1850DB compatible with any sort of audio device. The Edifier R1850DB speakers feature dual stereo RCA input, coaxial audio input, and optical audio input. The wireless connectivity expands the speaker’s compatibility with a wide range of portable devices like tablets, mobiles, and laptops.

Also situated on the back of the active speakers are the subwoofer out slot and the slot for linking the 2nd speaker system through the included wire. The speaker linking wire is five meters long, which should be too much for almost any kind of setup.

Edifier R1850DB Active Bookshelf Speaker Review – Features

Company ticks entire the boxes when it comes to functions:

  • Two stereo RCA, a coaxial port, and virtual optical can be utilized to hook these up directly to your audio unit. There is also a Bluetooth 4 version which makes it possible to steam wire-free from your Bluetooth-compatible device.
  • Wires for any of the analog inputs are Included, the company has also bundled a remote control that makes it simple to switch among inputs and control a number of playback features.
  • Low provides every black MDF box is quite aesthetically pleasing as well as taking off the front cover reveals the speaker is front side ported. This makes it additionally flexible with regard to placement – you can put it quite near to the wall without resulting in an accentuated bass.
  • The four-inch bass driver and .75” tweeter mean the complete enclosure is quite small. A pair of passive speakers in this price tag would normally come with a larger 5.25” woofer and 1” tweeter. However, a complete power output of 35 watts for each speaker means the Edifier R1850DB will be loud enough for most applications, which makes it the best Bluetooth speaker.
